Horror Movies

Thursday, July 21, 2005

I do not like horror movies. When I was younger, I used to watch scary movies, but now that is the last thing I want to watch. I also don't like movies with lots of bloodshed, foul language, witchcraft or demonic images. You are probably now asking me, "what's left?"

I will not even look at a preview in the movie theater if I know it is questionable to what I want to put into my mind. I put my hand over my eyes, because I don't want to see the images of evil beings or things rehearsed over and over in my mind. The bible says the eyes are the window to the soul, so my soul isn't going to be afflicted with anything I don't want to watch.

I love to watch movies that leave a lasting impression like Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Guess Who, Men of Honor, or Coach Carter. I love movies that are fun, but you feel good when you walk out of the theater, such as Guess Who, Herbie, or Because of Winn Dixie.

I am not a big movie watcher, but I sometimes take the boys from the Ranch out for a burger and movie and of course they want to watch action movies or thrillers. I tell them they can see Walt Disney, Finding Nemo, or Care Bears. They usually laugh but they watch whatever I choose. I figure they've experienced enough action and thrills in their lifetimes, and when they get out, some will probably experience it again. But as long as they are in my custody, they will be brainwashed by what I consider the finer things in life.

In my opinion, you should "brainwash" away to your heart's content. The boys will only be the better for it. Praise God they have someone like you who takes a Godly interest in them.

I draw my line at Vampire movies.. they freak me out!

But I must say I LOVED the Winn-Dixie movie!!! I was probably the only adult in the theater that wasn't with kids.. but I didn't mind because I loved it.

I love movies and prefer comedies. Funny Farm and The Burbs are my favorites.

I am a fan of old movies. I will watch anything with Cary Grant in it. Arsenic and Old Lace and Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse are my favorites.

Hmm, I think I will pop in Arsenic and Old Lace tonight.

I don't like horror movies either. Sometimes it can be hard to know the content of a movie. For example, a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine rented a movie that three of us watched. It had the guy who played Joey in Friends in it..I think the movie was something like All the Queens Men...anyway none of us had heard of it, but she got it because it sounded kinda good, and it had "Joey" in it. Turns out it wasn't that good, and there were questionable scenes...

I don't watch many movies, but when I do (and some tv shows, though I don't watch as much of that either) I try to filter my eyes and mind...though sometimes I don't and I regret it. I feel it is something I need to work on.

Would we watch that movie/show if Jesus were sitting beside us? I mean, He is, but if he were physically there would it be something we would watch? If not, then why watch it...can be hard to do but it can be done...

Hope this made sense...lol

I don't really like horror movies either. I don't like when I'm in the middle of watching a good show and they have a preview for a scary movie. Like the preview for Saw. Even the previews make me freak out.
I recently saw Diary of a Mad Black Woman. I loved it. It was so sweet and brought me some tears too.

My brother and I had a conversation about what we teach our kids. Sometimes I feel I bombard them with Christianity, and I'll never forget what he said to me: Don't worry about your 2 percent of Christianity in a world that's 98 percent the other way. How true. Our kids don't spend a lot of time with us (once they're school age), so it helps for us to show them a better way than what's out there.

I rarely go to movies (it's no fun to go alone all the time), but when I do I'm a sci-fi fan. The problem is, after Star Trek and Star Wars, most sci-fi flicks are low budget flops.

The last movie I went to see was "Hitch", and before that is was "The Passion." That should tell you how often I go to movies.

Ah, yes, the life of a single guy....

I know what you mean about the eyes being windows to your soul. I have seen scary movies before, and thought it didn't affect me, but at night I would have nightmares! I am sure it was b/c of those bad images in my mind. Great post!

I watched Diary of a Mad Black Women and Because of Wind-Dixie on this trip. I loved them both. They are kind of like undiscovered treasures being they weren't widely advertized and not too huge at the box office.

Two movies I like that make me feel better are "Playing by Heart" and Pollyanna...you probably have seen the later.
