It Was A Busy Night!
It was a busy night as usual in our city. It wasn't as busy as it has been in the past two weeks however, I just thought I would share a little about how things went.
Hundreds of calls come in day after day in our Dispatch center and on our non-emergency lines. Last night after 11pm we had a stabbing, a person who was hit in the head by a baseball bat during a fight, an injured person who claimed he had broken both arms, legs, his fingers and then advised his neck also popped, but the truth of the matter was he was intoxicated, a suicidal person who had a .45 to his head and a bottle of booze in the other hand, a runaway from another town who arrived at a party and was sexually assaulted, a vehicle containing drugs and guns outside of a motel and the usual traffic stops, reckless drivers, intoxicated persons, and domestics.
Many people think officers just sit around and look for someone to harass, but that is not the case. Rarely is there time for any officer to just sit around. Many times we do not even get to take lunch breaks due to the number of incomoing calls.
Our city is divided into six districts, two officers are assigned to each district. We patrol when we are not on a call. We have two traffic units who normally work the interstate unless we need help in the districts and no one is available.
Lines are ringing constantly into 911 and to the non emergency lines at the PD, officers are then dispatched to the calls in their districts. Officers are being told by Dispatch where to go and depending on the nature of the call, more than one officer may respond.
Priority is given to a Fight, Domestic, Suspicious Person, Suspicious Vehicle, Prowler, Indecent Exposure, Sexual Assault or Major Accident. These are all much higher on our list, than Loud Music or a burglary of a building or vehicle.
Of course if the burglary were in progress it would naturally be a Priority one call, but if it has occurred and the scene is secure, it would fall down on the list. This doesn't mean it loses importance, it just means that when something is in progress it becomes much more important to get to it to ensure it doesn't escalate.
So that is my tutorial for today, I hope to have some pics posted for you all tomorrow of the baptism so check back for some exciting updates on what's goin on here at Sweeterthanever and thanks for visiting!

Good points. It annoys me no end to see sooo many critical comments on blogs about cops, teachers or healthcare workers. Sometimes I wish they'd all quit (many do ultimately)- that would give the whiners something to really wah-wah-wah about!
I have never known whether or not they care, but I always wave when I pass an officer, and always speak when I meet one around town. They don't always seem very talkative, but they are undoubtedly focused on many things at once. I greatly appreciate those charged with keeping the peace.
Hmmm..I have yet to hear anyone whine about police officers or teachers, or health care workers. I know my kids love police officers! And they are always really nice to my kids....I bet they get that all the time, it probably gets hard when they've had a stressful day but so far, they are always there for the kids.
It's nice to see a new post on here *wink*, since you harass me about mine..lol
Thanks for the tutorial, altho not much of it is new to me since I"m in the legal field also. :-)
What I love about cops is their sense of humor. Dated one for five years and still think about him and his humor today. I added you to my blogroll, you are interesting.
This is something I think about everyday since my son is a D.C. cop. Talk about a mother never sleeping.
I love that pic of the cop lol.. it made me giggle. I have often wondered what it would be like to work in a police station, but I know it's just not my calling. Thank you for all the hard work you do for your city!
I have moved to another website.. you can find me at:

Big fan of the PO-leece.
Tough job.
The people that are so quick to criticize are probably the ones who scream the loudest when they need a police officer.
I think you all do an outstanding job considering what you're given to work with and the constant looking over your shoulder. How would anyone else like to work under those conditions?
Thanks for sharing this.
Gotta tell you have I been hasseled and helped. I was helped by police when I had a stalker in my young 20's. They where so helpful and kind. Another time I was force to stand in the pouring rain for 10 minutes with my kids in the car because my city sticker or some thing was overdue.
I think 95% of cops are out there doing their best but the 5% seemed to always stand out more. You know what they say sadly, only takes 1 wrong to wreck 9 rights.
Very good tutorial!
last time I got stopped by a cop..it went like this...
officer: ma'am where are you headed
me: to go see my grandma
officer: is your grandmother moving
me: huh? no, I don't think so
officer: well then slow down, she'll still be there when you get there.
me: heh heh - thanks
Then he gave me a ticket. I didn't complain, I know he was just doing his job, but he could have left out the smarty pants remarks......
It's funny now, but then it wasn't
