PRAYERS FOR MY MOTHER
Thursday, August 18, 2005
Please pray for my mother, she has been sick for about two years. I thought we were going to lose her many times, but God has been so good! She continues to improve and is very upbeat, is even walking on her own, although not without a cane or walker. However she is afraid to stay by herself for even a moment, she has to have someone with her twenty four hours a day. She has seizures and a blood clotting disorder.
A little history.....
My mother had polio when I was two years old. I went to live with my grandmother until I was in the third grade. My older brother and sister lived with my dad at home, he was a police officer who had been run down on his police Harley Davision motorcycle by a drunk driver. He raced up into the driveway of the gas station, jumped from his cycle and the drunk ran over him. He had a crushed collar bone, crushed his leg, had to have a steel plate put into his leg to replace the bone that was crushed. I am not sure what else, but he was pretty messed up.
He was in the hospital for a year then when he got out, mom was struck with polio. So although Dad was out of the hospital, he was in a full body cast laying on the couch, mom was in an iron lung at the hospital not expecting to make it. She was also in the hospital for a year. Later they separatred and mom worked three jobs supporting myself, my brother, older sister and my little sister.
So now mom is at that stage in life where she wants her independence and cannot have it. She can laugh so easily and give you a tongue lashing all within a matter of seconds. You can't help but love her, but sometimes it is so sad, because when we get older we have to depend on others. She thinks people are stealing all of her things, she wants to be in her own home, but doesn't want to let any of her money to be spent on her care, she wants us to drop everything and do it her way. We try to do the best we can, we reassure her, call her, let her come visit when we can, and spoil her as much as we can. Mostly I pray for her and let her know her feelings count and we want her to be involved in all decisions affecting her.
But no matter what, it is still sad seeing mom go through this. I know we may not have her too much longer, but she amazes me all the time so only God knows for sure. But if you all will, pray for mom to have peace and to be strengthened in this time. I would really appreciate it!!!
Much love to you all!!!

I surely will. :)
Of course! It has to be hard to get to the point where you are relying on other people.. my sympathies go out to her.. and to you and your siblings for finding that patience deep within for her
thanks fts and msthang, I do appreciate your prayers!!!
My mom has moved into an independant living apartment community. She is in no way in as sad a position as you mom. But I could sure relate to it whn you said, "So now mom is at that stage in life where she wants her independence and cannot have it."
Blessings!
We will, of course, pray.
What a scourge polio was. Thank God there is so little of it left in the world.
I am praying for your mom. It's tough to want your independence and not be able to do things for yourself. I pray that she finds strength, courage and joy in the Lord. Without love, nothing matters, and she is surrounded by love. She is blessed.
My prayers are with you and your mom.
Will def pray for your mother. She is God's child - she will be taken care of...so will you. :)
Thanks for the prayer...it was for an interview...I think it went ok...I have another one with them on monday so keep lifting me up.
I am very thankful for it!!!
That's an incredible story. I always thoguth it was a shame that people who've conquered so much have to fight more battles from growing older.
Just to let you know, I've said a prayer for her already!
Just popping by to say thanks for visitin the Faith Expedition! You're welcome any time! I'll be sure to stop by here and check things out. So sorry to hear about your Mom. God will surely give you all just the right amount of strength you need to deal with every trial! He is indeed faithful!! My prayers go with you, Becky
I'll definitely be praying for you and your mom. I lost my mom 3 years ago to cancer -- it metastasized to her brain. She had brain surgery to remove the tumor, but that took away alot of her independence, and she was a VERY independent woman! Lol ;) It's so hard to see someone that you know seem to go from an adult back to a child and seeing their frustration with it... Mom's in much better hands now, with a new body, singing and dancing and praising our Abba!
I'll be praying for you all :)
Blessings,
Cindy
