Dreams...Do they Mean Anything?
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
The other night I had an interesting dream. I was in this church, it had a long middle aisle with pews on both sides and every seat was full. I was sitting toward the back on the left hand side. I looked across the aisle on the other side about three rows up and there was this very pretty black lady with long hair sitting there. I didn't know who she was, but I had some sort of connection to her. It was as if I knew of her, but didn't personally know her.
Then the preacher pointed at her and told her to get up and leave. I was thinking how weird! He then said to the congregation, "I asked her to leave, because she is not a part of the family of God. " About thirty minutes later or so, she came back and had cut her hair off and came and sat down right next to me. I was thinking to myself in the dream...."Lord, what does this mean?" Then I heard the Lord say, "the cutting of her hair represents that she is cut off from my people."
The service was over after a little while, we all get in our cars and leave and the next thing I know I am in her house, she is sitting on her couch to the left of me, I am standing there like I am in the spirit just to observe. The Lord speaks to me and says, "She will not submit to me, she pretends to be a christian but she isn't."
Then there was a third part of the dream I can't remember. I got up thinking, what does this mean and who is this lady? I kept feeling impressed that I needed to write down the three parts of the dream, but I didn't and I can't remember the last part. I was wondering who this lady is or if she was symbolic of a place or if the dream even meant anything.
I was sharing with the two boys who live with us and with my husband. I explained the dream to them, when one of the boys said his ex girlfriend whom he hasn't talked to in a year called him that very night. He said she used to be in drugs with him and she was telling him she had gotten saved and baptized, he said he felt as if she was lying to him. He said he didn't believe it. He said maybe the dream was about her. He said things like this have always happened in his life, it's like either people from his past or things have come up and when he listens to them he has fallen back into sin. Hmmmm interesting thought!?
I have had different dreams about the Lord or of Him speaking to me before but they were clearly something I understood. So what do you think? Do dreams mean anything or does our mind just make up things when we are sleeping? I have been praying and asking God if it was from Him to reveal to me who the woman is in the dream. Sometimes places or things like the hurricane are referred to as a woman, so I wasn't sure if that were the case in the dream or not. I am just speculating now, I will wait on the Lord on this one. Maybe I will dream the dream again.

Dreams are a recurring theme in the Bible. You can start with Joseph (of the colorful coat) and go from there. My mom is an incredibly Godly woman, and I really believe He has spoken to her in dreams. Who are we to second guess the ways in which God is allowed to communicate with us, right?
Cheryl is right. God used dreams to communicate even with those who didn't follow Him, such as Nebucanezzar (sp?), who related his dream to Daniel for interpretation.
It would take a lot of discernment and wisdom to know. I hope I have enough of both to know should I be a vessel.
Hmmm. God talks to us all in different manners...
Cheryl, so true, God does speak to us in many different ways, I have never dreamed about something I didn't understand though, but maybe it was just what it was, perhaps, I will have a remote connection to someone who is not a true believer and God is showing me that before I meet them
I enjoyed this post. I believe there are sometimes that dreams don't mean much of anything. But there are definately times that God speaks to you in dreams. I had an encounter a few weeks ago that was so real. If you like, you can read about it on my BLOG.
I will come visit again and read more of your entries. Thanks for visiting my blog I hope you will come back again.
God Bless~
I've had dreams like that which did not mean A THING to me, but a friend that I told about the dream... it was a sign from God to her.
So maybe it was for the boy and HIS realization.
Just a thought.
Have a great day!
I hope my dreams can't be translated to real life, because they are always WIERD.
I am a big believer in God speaking to us in our dreams. And Like Jayleigh said, it may not be for you but for someone else, for something you can’t even imagine right now. I’m sure God will reveal it to you in His time.
God talks to us. And He longs for us to talk to Him throughout our day, too - everyday. Ask Him, He knows your heart.
"Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheeps clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves."
That's what your dream reminded me of.
I dreamt I got to give God some water once and I felt so good the next day, you got to speak to him and hear him. That is so nice.
I believe God communicates with us in many ways, dreams included. In your case, I believe it was a God thing, but He'll let you know. Praying after a dream like that will help you figure it out.
I have a lot of experience with dreams (that would make a blog of its own) just hang onto the thought. the fact that you remembered it when you woke up is a start. The Lord will show you when the time is right, be patient. Thinking about it now will give you the proper way to react when it occurs.
That sounds hauntingly familiar to a church occurance that really happened to me when I was sixteen.
The Pastor threw out a girl that had a baby out of wedlock. I never went back to that church again!
I used it as an example of why the protagonist in my first novel doesn't like God.
thanks for visiting my Blog. I love yours too, I'll be back!
Bonnie sent me...
To me it seemed like the dream was saying, watch over others that are led astray, they gather to you and you must love them but tell them what it is they are doing wrong. They want to do right but do not have anyone to teach them how.
That's just how I felt while reading your dream. I used to be a cottage/house parent too. Worked at Boystown for a year and Southmountain Children's Home for four years. I think we've got a lot in common!
I love the way you share your thoughts...maybe you could post in a slightly larger print. I was squinting at the keyboard...I didn't want to miss a word!
God Bless.
I think that alot of dreams signify something, but overall I will have to agree with AM... my dreams are WAY too WEIRD, especially if I go to bed really tired or on medication lol. But dreams that are that vivid and clear tend to mean something.
Just dropped by to vist again. God Bless You.
Most dreams don't have spiritual meaning, but God sometimes talks to me in dreams. As you have, ask Him to clarify by another means, like the Bible or another person. God has steered me in significant ways on a couple of occasions by a dream, but the unwise need to be careful of reading too much into dreams, but the discerning need to be careful not to ignore when God is speaking.
I do believe that dreams mean something. I once dreamt that a guy I dated died in a car accident and 3 months later, he did. I even told him the dream before he died. Ever since that, I am a firm believer that dreams mean something.
