A Place Called Hell?
Monday, October 03, 2005
I meet many people who proclaim to know Christ but claim there is no such thing as hell and the devil. I beg to differ on this subject. The Bible continually warns of a place called hell. There are over 162 references in the New Testament alone which warns of hell. And over 70 of these references were uttered by the Lord Jesus Christ! Personally I think it is a subject that should be researched and of course I believe the bible is truth, so if the bible says it, I believe it and that settles it.
Three people die every second, 180 every minute,10,800 people an hour. An automobile accident. . . A heart attack. . , A stroke. . .One thing is CERTAIN — we will all DIE — today. . . tomorrow . . . a week. . . a month . . . a year. . . 5 years. . . 10 years. . . 20 years. . . 50 years — so where will they spend eternity? Heaven or Hell?
There are people I know personally who will die and go to into either eternal life or eternal damnation. I don't judge their heart or question their salvation but I do try to my light shine? If the Holy Spirit nudges me to witness I try my best to be obedient. I look for opportunities to share what Christ has done in my life and if He did it for me, He will do it for them!
So what do you believe? Is there a place called heaven and is there a place called hell?

Is there a hell? Well now, you can't have light with out darkness, nor day with out night, so it stands to reason you can't have a heaven with out a hell...
It also is a sad fact that some of us encounter our hell here on earth, and it is of our own making...
Good post.
I absolutely believe in heaven and hell. I really don't know the standards that are really placed on getting to either other than living a god filled life, and being a good servant. And like you said I am not one to determine if Joe Blow next to me will get to heaven or hell, but I will do my best to offer them that choice by a)living a god filled life to the best of my abilities, and b)witnessing to them through actions or words.
I believe I believe! And if you read my post today, you'll know that I believe in heaven too!
Great question. I do believe in a place called heaven and a place called hell, but the details of both are rather fuzzy. I’m not one who believes all the stuff about streets of gold, etc. I’ve come to the conclusion that whereever/whatever hell is, God isn’t there. And I want to be with him. So even if I don’t get a big mansion behind pearly gates and a crown of jewels to wear, heaven is my choice simply because God is there, and that’s good enough for me.
I definately believe there is a Heaven & a Hell. I can't defend why I believe, I just do. I do help those that question such things & help them find the answers.
Your posts give me alot to think about. Thanks. :-)
Without a doubt.
Did you know that translators took some liberties with hell? Sheol (OT) and Hades (NT), where the dead are (both belivers and nonbelievers), is mentioned 65 and 42 times, respectively. They aren't really hell, even though King James translated them into one word. Tartarus appears only once (2 Peter 2:4) and is referred to as the deepest abyss of Hades, though not much is known about it, but it's assumed it's temporary, just as Sheol-Hades is. Gehenna is the NT word that describes the permanent place of the dead and was used by Jesus 11 times -- and by James once (James 3:6). This is the Lake of Fire.
Just thought I'd give you a little trivia I learned while leading a study a couple of years ago on Revelation. :)
Amstaff is making me sing that song...
I believe I believe! I believe in the Word of God. I believe I believe. Cuz He made me believe.
Well, of course there is a hell because if there is good there is evil and most importantly, if the Bible is the word of God and it warns us about it, then it's real. The debate comes in when we talk about what hell will be like. I hear people say "gnashing of teeth" is just an expression, that there is no fire, that a loving God wouldn't expose "what he created in his image" to that kind of eternal torture. Basically, some people believe hell to be a separation from God and nothing more. I don't know the specifics, but from what the Bible says, it's not a place I ever want to see.
Wow, great post. I agree with what many have said here. I believe there IS a Heaven and Hell. But perhaps I am also a little fuzzy on details too. Its funny this came up because just the other day I was telling Joe that I really want to read my Bible more, and focus more on God. I asked him all these questions on what he thought Heaven was like, and also Hell. I have heard that compared to Heaven, life here on Earth is like hell. But I always try to make the best of each day and I think life is good. I would love it if you would elaborate more on what you might know about Heaven and Hell. :)

Like most here I believe there is a heaven and a hell as well as the devil. As to the specifics of the same and their exact disposition, well that may be a bit fuzzy.
fts - thank you for the great lesson! I'm curious about Gehenna. I have heard it explained by some biblical scholars as a garbage dump, where trash as well as dead carcasses were thrown. How does that translate into a Lake of Fire? Was the garbage dump routinely burned to get rid of the smell and bacteria? Forgive my ignorance.
There is a Hell and a Satan - who stalks us like a lion. We choose everyday which voice we will listen to.
I don't know about the trash and carcasses, but from what I studied yes, it is the Lake of Fire, of never-ending punishment.
To those who believe a loving God wouldn't send His creations there, HE doesn't. We have a choice, and if we choose to reject Him then we send ourselves. God created Satan and all of the fallen angels, too, but He cast them from heaven to roam the earth, and in Revelation He states that Satan will be cast into the Lake of Fire as well (Rev. 19:20 and 20:10). It is referred to as the second, eternal death (Rev. 20:14).
Loved the comments above. I've prayed for you - Eph 6:19. God bless you! I believe we go to heaven when we believe by faith that Jesus has forgiven our sins and we receive new life. Hell is a real place that is terror-filled.
wow the commments here have been amazing. Ok I am now going to post some scriptures and maybe FTS can enlighten us even more. Thanks all
