His Death!
Saturday, November 19, 2005

Something our Pastor said has really impacted me the past few weeks. He stated Christ died the worst death of anyone that had ever died.
I was thinking about how easy it is to hate a murderer, a child molester, but all that hate was directed at Him and He didn't even deserve it, and still today the world hates an innocent man.
He literally was tortured more, insulted more, bled more than anyone. I never really thought about it quite like that, but He wasn't paying for just his own sin, which He had none, but He paid for all of our sins, so He suffered greater than anyone who has ever suffered or ever will suffer, no matter how heinous the crime, because He took my sin, your sin, everyone's sin.
I thought to myself, why have I not realized the gravity of the amount of pain and torture He endured. I mean I know, I have read, I know He took all of our sins upon himself, but to be beaten, tortured and crucified because of millions of sins, the punishment of something like that, it is unspeakable, unbearable.
It is as if a light has come on, I can feel this now for the first time. I always knew He took my sin, but thinking of it that a person might could stand or bear their own punishment but the punishment of the whole, wide world, that is so deep.
I cried, I couldn't help myself, I thought no one would do that, no one. Yet He did and He didn't want to, yet He said, "not my will, but thine." So much more the reason to love Him, only God could do that, He came in the flesh and died a criminal's death for me. He was given the ultimate death sentence.
They thought they were putting Him in His place, but they put Him in mine. Even in death, they couldn't stop Him. HE LOVES YOU!!!!! I have never known such incredible love!

This is something I *knew*, but wasn't really driven home until I saw "The Passion of the Christ." As I watched the film, it made such an impact on me. We've always been fed the candy-coated Hallmark card version of the crucifixtion, but I think it was important that we see the stark portrayal, even as hard as it was to watch. The sad part is, Gibson's movie probably wasn't even close to reality.
Amen! What a great post, thanks for sharing!
I don't like thinking about how much he suffered. I think about how in the Gospels the story is laid out again and again and so it must be important to know and realize how He suffered for us. I never saw the Passion. All that suffering. It is a little too much for me.
That was a great post. The impression that it made on you is one that I pass on every chance I get. I've heard christians sometimes blame the Jews for killing Jesus. I tell them, "No the Jews didn't kill Jesus, we did. He died for our (christian)sins.
If we meditate on this truth long enough, we will want to become better people - not because we HAVE to (as Christians) but because we WANT to. God has shown us so much love, mercy, grace and forgiveness...just knowing this makes me want to please Him.
Wow. I never thought of it that way before. Very moving.
fts,
I agree the Passion probably didn't even come close to what He suffered, and it was horrible!
Ordinary Christian,
i have seen the Passion about five times and each time I have seen something I hadn't seen before. The reason I have seen it so many times is because we minister to boys and we have taken them on pass to see the movie, I have seen these young gang members cry when they have seen it. Amazing!
Bonnie,
I am now going to pass this along, I knew He suffered and died a criminals death, I just never thought about the gravity of taking the punishment of us all.
Jennifer,
I know, I was so impacted, like a light switch was turned on.
Maria,
That is exactly how it impressed me, that we should love Him all the more!
Wow,
I can't believe how much conviction I've seen across my regular reads lately.
The Passion of the Christ affected me deeply, but Christ, Himself, holds me up. I may have an incredible story to tell here soon. I'll know by Monday but it will take weeks to type because I lack the eloquence to explain the magnitude of God's mercy.
Stay tuned.
LL&L,
I went to see the Passion three times then eventually bought the movie....in itself, crucifixion was/is the most horrible death to endure, adding to it enduring the sins of the world. Awesome post....
Blessings,
Donna
Absolutely true, indeed what manner of love has the Father bestowed on humanity through Christ. Til we draw our last breath on earth, mankind will never grasp in full the depth, height, length and breadth of His everlasting love.
