From Prison to Praise

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

He went to Prison. It's a sad story, but just one of many. Danny is half white and half black. He grew up in an all white school, suffered alot of racial abuse, however he still exceled. He achieved a football scholarship, was going to college when he was drafted into the Vietnam war.

Danny got hooked on drugs in Vietnam. He said they were just kids and they took drugs to block out the things they did there. He received a Purple Heart while there and later stepped on a land mine and was sent home. Fortunately he still has both legs but he has alot of pain from the injuries that have healed, as well as the pain in his heart.

He went to prison four times, the last time, he said when he walked into the area where all the inmates were, he saw a light way back in the corner. He said it was like there was no one else in the room, but in the corner was an old friend, a preacher's kid. He walked over to this guy and the guy looked up at him and said, "Danny, you look like you are tired." He replied, "yes I am tired." The friend then replied, "I mean tired of life, tired of living the way you've been living." Danny said, "yes I am." They got on their knees that day back in the corner of that prison and Danny cried and prayed as he asked God to forgive him. The next day he got a visit from a daughter he had not seen in fourteen years. It was the first time he had ever gotten a visit while in prison. Since then, God has brought people into Danny's life to tell him about Christ's love and plan for him. He said always before the people who came in his life wanted to talk about drugs or armed robbery.

Danny has struggled with drugs throughout his life, but when he got out, he fell again into the trap. This time, God continued to bring people to tell him He loved him. So he checked himself into a rehab. When he completed the program, he found another program, both were Christian based and he went through that program too. He is clean now and says you can live legit for awhile, but you can't make it living legit without Christ. Now Danny cries everytime you talk to him. He says he could never let his emotions out before, now he doesn't hold them back.

God is such an awesome God. I thank him for saving Danny, he encourages me to stay in the Inner City Ministry! Hugs to all of you! Please! Pray for Danny that God will continue to strengthen him and use him for his glory!!

Wonderful testimony. :)

Reminds me of an interview I heard with Maurice Gibb one time. He was talking about being on tour (he's the Bee Gee that died a couple of years ago and Robin's fraternal twin), and how he was a recovering alcoholic. He said one was never fully recovered, that it was a day-to-day struggle, some days worse than others.

The first thing he did when he would arrive in the next city on a tour, was to seek out the local AA chapter and GO TO THEIR MEETING. He said it was what sustained him.

"God continued to bring people to tell him He loved him." Isn't that just like God? Jesus didn't come into the world to condemn the world but to save all those that would come to Him. Lord Jesus, thank You for Danny's life. Lord, lift up our eyes so that we may see where our Hope comes from. For our hope is in You, and in You is our life. Encourage Danny and Dana and others as they continue in their ministries and in their walks.

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." I Corin 2:9 NIV. Encourage yourself in the Lord.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments for me on my site. You are a blessing to me and your ministry encourages me day-by-day, even today for example, with a house of teenagers and neighborhood kids (why do they love to hang out here?(rhetorical), I thought of you and where I am in life with these children and was just encouraged. It is hard to describe, because it was the Lord who ministered to me in reminding me of your work and somehow from it -- I guess I realized that I too am in a "calling" where I am at, and it is the Lord that I serve, because not a lot of positive strokes comes back when you (I) am serving teenagers who see their own life as their goal, and the least they can depend upon you, the better, unless they want something from you. But then it is not them that I serve, per say, but the Lord, and I love Him and them too. So I strive to be like Abraham, who was so gracious to Lot, when he could have just said to the dude that he was really blowing it and disrespectful, but he was just so gracious.

PTL!

Hey Darlene, I've just come back to town for a funeral - the funeral of a mate who KNEW THE LORD. It was a privilege to celebrate his life. And to remember the One that my mate George looked to. I'm still a bit weary from travelling back to Dubbo from the coast (nearly 7 hrs) but wanted to get on & say Gday.
I'll pray for Danny.

It makes me sad that it takes some people a long time to come to that reality. I wonder how long it will take my son. He will be 24 yrs old in Feb. and he just won't take responsibility. I worry that some day he will end up in prison. Why do they have to fall so far before they will except Christ as their savior? It's not like we haven't taught him. He just won't accept it. I pray for him daily to let the Lord help him. Please stay with the ministries and help those who need you. I hope my son will evintually find the right person to help him. The Lord will bless you for all of your good work. I will pray for your Danny. Please pray for my William.

amstaff mom,
I did talk to Nathan yesterday. We plan to meet Sunday after next. He thinks he would like to get involved with us taking the boys on pass to Fellowship Church on Saturday nights, so hopefully when he gets there, he likes it.

I am going to ask Eddo is he will speak at the Ranch soon. If so we would love for you all to come. Please consider it!

Dana,

Nathan told me that he had spoken with you, and I think he will make a great volunteer.

And I will do my absolute best to come hear Eddo if he speaks. I feel like we're all one big happy family! :)

Awesome! I too think we are one big happy family. isn't it amazing what God has done. I am still amazed at Cat and Eddo hitting it off like they did, but God has a plan for each of our lives. She is so sweet, I had prayed he would meet someone that would be like Cat. I am so excited!
