Can I Get A Witness?

Thursday, January 19, 2006

Proverbs 11:3 the integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

I work in law enforcement and volunteer in a juvenile correctional facility. I live by the words..."I don't hear what you say, but I see what you do."
Actions do speak louder than words. In a courtroom trial, witnesses are frequently called by both sides to testify to what they saw and experienced at the scene of the crime. Prosecuters will tell you that it's often not so much what the witness on the stand actually says as much as his body language and how he says it. Everything from the witnesses appearance, his grooming, speech patterns and mannerisms.

We are judged by our behavior. What we do shows what we truly believe. There is a difference between knowing something and believing it.

Our greatest testimony to our Christian faith is our actions, interactions and satisfactions. The world is watching us and our behavior, our contentments scream to them.

So many times when I first started working at the PD, I had to walk away politely to keep my witness, but now I am left out of those jokes and conversations. God gives me opportunities to share my faith and to pray for my co-workers who are hurting. I am thankful He can use me, I am nobody special, I just want my life to count for Him.

When I was a rookie cop I got invited to an after work party given by one of my senior officers. I went home and picked up Lucy so we could go together. It was a wild party with heavy drinking so Lucy and I left after a short time. I was later informed that I shouldn't have brought my wife; it was one of those kind of parties. I was never invited to any more; never missed not being invited.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment to my article about the woman from India.

This is the first time that I have to disagree with you. Because you ARE somebody special, and you show that in many ways. :)

I really admire your work - that's not an easy job: and the fact that you're concious of your faith and witness even in those conditions is nothing short of amazing.

I thank God for people like you: I'll be praying for you!

We are witnesses of Christ as He lives His life through us as we yeild to Him. I know what you mean when you say that you are nobody special, because though do great things and are a great person, it is the humble person in you that is doing the work. Like John the Baptist who said, "He must increase, and I must decrease." "God opposes the proud and God gives grace to the humble." Oh, yes, your son and I have been communicating, thanks.

Actions do speak louder than words. I continue saying this and will until the day I die. I hear so many excuses...

"But I told her that I loved her..." Well then, you might have tried not sleeping with one of her girlfriends while she was out of town.

"But I said I'd never do it again." Yeah, but you still stole the money. Sometimes saying you won't do it again isn't enough...

etc., etc.

And we will be known by our love. Not just saying that we love but the actions that show our love.

So true.

Actions speak louder than words is so very true. People are watching even when we don't know it. We have to be good examples of our savior. They are lucky to have you.

I'm so fed up with lip service. Let's get down to the foot massage.

Or something like that. ;)

It's tough to be in the world and try not to be of the world. A constant struggle.

Amen! I always remember the words of Mother Teresa "I am an ordinary pen in the hand of an extraordinary God." You are like a Mother Teresa to those you touch in your job, too!

Dana, you are so right. It's not what you say but what you do. The old "Actions speak louder than words" adage.
