Let's Get Serious!!

Saturday, January 07, 2006

As you might have noticed the Bible is not a liberal book. While it is full of the merciful acts of God, it also emphasizes that there are serious consequences for wrongdoing. I have thought alot lately about how God views sin. I mean His Son suffered a horrible death for our sins.

I hear people talk about how God has a sense of humor when it comes to justifying their sin. I know God is a loving God, but He is also just. In the Old Testament, God didn't play. Just read Leviticus! He has provided the sacrifice of His Son for sin, but He is still the same God today that He was way back then. He still hates sin! If He didn't view sin as serious, why did He write sixty six books and it sin mentioned in all of them? Why did He continually point to the way we should live.

People talk about how the Old Testament is no longer relevant. What????!!! The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed! I could really get into this, I just believe God is the same yesterday, today and forever and if He hated sin then, He hates it now.

Love motivates Love! He forgave me for much and I want to glorify Him. I refuse to just accept sin, I fight it in my life, I hate sin. I remember when I got saved, I cried and cried over some of the things I had done. My eyes had been opened and I was so sorry for my sins. I had a change of heart, a change of mind and a change of will that day! I am just saying the old is gone and the new has come. Let's let our light shine. I will never be completely sin free, but I am washed in the blood of the Lamb and He brings me into right standing with my Father.

I saw a t shirt the other day that said, "Satan is Bad, Jesus is Good, BE LIKE JESUS!!" So that is really my point. I want to strive to be like Jesus. Yall have a blessed day!!!

Good versus evil. Breaking it down to its simplest form, the lowest common denominator. Black and white; no grey.

Well said.

Dana, this post is all about the "shades of gray" arguement(s). There are, in fact, absolutes. Mark my words you will hear more and more "shades of gray" arguements.

A little compromise here - a little compromise there ....

The Old Testament gets taken out of context WAY too many times, and alot of people don't understand the idea of dispensationalism (especially since it's such a big word!) But the fact is, that we're God's children, and just like a parent has different rules and disciplines for a two year old than a 12 year old, so have us humans been handled differently, but that doesn't make God different. He's the same yesterday, today and forever.

FTS,
I do so agree. I know we will all sin as long as we are in our flesh, 1 Cor. 10:13, says God always provides a way out and a way to stand up under it. So to me that means we have a choice.

Mike,
Great comment!! So true!!

Shelly,
Thanks, sometimes I get on my soap box. I had a discussion with someone today who is literally doing drugs, living in sin, has no desire to attend church or read the word, and he tells me, why should we try not to sin when God forgives us no matter what. I told him to go read Romans and let God's word spk to him on the subject because I wouldn't debate the issue with him.

Amstaff mom,
True, he is the same yesterday, today and forever!

God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. I wish more people could see this. All verses of scripture are worthy. The old testament is just a pertient today as it was years ago. We learn from both the old and the new testaments. Good post. Did you ever find the name and author of that book? I sure would like to read it.

I have heard the argument that the Old Testement is not valid because of the New Testement. One builds on the other. You cannot pick and choose what part of God's word you are going to obey and which part you are not. It all applies. Sin is sin.

BTW...I do think God has a sense of humour....look at mankind..LOL
But definetly not about sin.

Well said Dana

God has a good sense of humor, but He has NEVER even smiled at any sin.

Good post Dana!

It really gets to me when people are so messing up but they say, "God knows my heart!"

Yea, God knows their hearts....continually sinful!

Interesting post. I am still fairly new at learning the bible, but I do see alot of double standards when it comes to people saying what sins are acceptible and which are not. I do agree that the bible is the ultimate last word in right and wrong.

I totally agree. Looking at God as *only* loving or *only* just is seeing half the picture.

I refuse to just accept sin, I fight it in my life, I hate sin. That sums up the Christian mentality, right there. Non-christians just don't get it. They see sin as something you don't want to do, but exceptions can be made under the 'right' circumstances. Christians realize that there is no compromise. And do we all sin? Of course! I am very guilty of it myself. But the goal is to realize what it is, call it for what it is, and stop it.

Got here from Jennifer's blog. My wife went to a Lutheran college, and she was taught that both law and gospel permeate both the Old and New Testaments. I believe that both testaments are equally valid.
