If I Could
Saturday, May 13, 2006
This poem describes the way I feel about my mother right now. I can't stand to see her in pain, scared, afraid of being alone. It is difficult to help her since she doesn't know what to do, yet I have to try. I have found life is not always easy and sometimes it hurts to see those you love and care about in situations beyond yours and their control....
If I could give my mom the world
Or anything she wanted,
I'd give her my own heart and soul
And leave my own heart haunted.
I'd take upon myself her life
With all its strife and pain,
And let her ease into some space
Where she could live again.
The pain for me would not be pain,
At least not for a while;
For I'd be doing it for her,
And I would see her smile.
I wish that I could take her heart
And cleanse it with my tears,
And make her sorrow go away,
And answer all her fears.
I wish, I wish, but then I can't,
As I watch helplessly,
And take her in my arms and say
I wish that it were me.
But loving is a hard, hard way,
With all the pain it brings.
And yet there is no other way
To touch the heart of things.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you Mothers out there!
If I could give my mom the world
Or anything she wanted,
I'd give her my own heart and soul
And leave my own heart haunted.
I'd take upon myself her life
With all its strife and pain,
And let her ease into some space
Where she could live again.
The pain for me would not be pain,
At least not for a while;
For I'd be doing it for her,
And I would see her smile.
I wish that I could take her heart
And cleanse it with my tears,
And make her sorrow go away,
And answer all her fears.
I wish, I wish, but then I can't,
As I watch helplessly,
And take her in my arms and say
I wish that it were me.
But loving is a hard, hard way,
With all the pain it brings.
And yet there is no other way
To touch the heart of things.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you Mothers out there!

Hi LLL,
Just visiting by way of your comment to Faith In Florida. As I read back through your page, I was touched by the situation with your mother and your application of Scripture to daily life. You display a lot of wisdom in the tough times you are going through.
I'll check back now and then to see how you're doing.
that was very cool,
thank you for, sharing this,

That was a sweet poem mom.
You always surprise me with your compassion - you are amazing as I don't think I could handle some of what grandma has put you through.
That is a lot of love! May God grant you wisdom with what is the best thing you can do at these difficult times, and give your family unity and give your mom peace and calmness.
Thank you also for your blessing/prayer comment you left for me, it was right on target with my heart's desire (what a surprise).
Beautiful Dana. I relate.
