A Policeman's Prayer

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Lord, I ask for courage,
Courage to face and conquer my own fears,
Courage to take me where others will not go,
I ask for strength,
Strength of body to protect others,
Strength of spirit to lead others,
I ask for dedication,
Dedication to do my job, to do it well,
Dedication to my community to keep it safe,
Give me, Lord, concern,
For all those who trust me,
And compassion for those who need me,
And, Please Lord, through it all, be at my side.

Today a fellow officer died. It was unexpected. He went home sick, his wife came home and found him on the floor, unconscious, not breathing.

Pray for Gary's wife and family. Thank you.

Prayers are going up. My husband is a retired firefighter, I know the stress and danger the public servants face daily. May God be with that family and give them comfort and peace.

Yes, Dana, it's a tragedy. Our prayers are with the family.

I was privileged to attend a prayer breakfast in Roswell, NM a couple of days ago. There were 2 regular cops there and the police chief himself, a strong Christian man. What a blessing to have Christian cops in a place like Roswell.
Now in Wichita, KA

I'm so sorry to hear of this. Do they think it's job related? I guess in a way it would be, if it's due to stress.

My prayers are with you guys. YOu're going thru a lot lately.

Dear Father, Only you know the pain that Gary's wife and family feels. Be with her in a specific and measureable way, that she knows Your presence. Help the family to trust in You in the midst of this difficult situation. Please be with Dana, and with me, with our fears and protect us both. Help us to be the role models that You would have us to be. Give Dana a special measure of protection and fearlessness and power and strength in You, that she would KNOW and feel Your presence where ever she walks, and reassure her that since You called her, You will be with her, that You wouldn't abandon her in the midst of her doing what you called her to do. Help us to walk in all that You have for us, surrendering all to You, including our own evaluations of circumstances because that takes our eyes off of You and we want our eye to be single and good. We look to our heavenly reward. You are our great and complete reward. Amen. And now I'll sing, "In Christ alone..."(do you know the song? I can't quite remember the words, just the start of it.)
