Walking It Out!

Percentage of American's who own running shoes but don't run: 87%
Today, I will leave work, meet up with my husband and go for a two mile walk. This is a time for me to reflect, to pray, to listen. By the time I get finished, I am so invigorated I feel like I could take on anything. I started this routine to lose some weight, but also to relieve stress. I then I go for a swim just for the pure enjoyment of it.
I challenge my friends and family to get into a regular exercise routine. American Health is quoted as saying, "Regular exercise toughens the mind as well as the body. After working out three times a week for six months, one group was found to be 20% fitter. Bonus: they also scored 70% better in a test of complex decision making."
Now just for a laugh.....A retired couple decided that they should walk two miles a day to stay in shape. They chose to walk a mile out on a lonely country road so they would have no choice but to walk back. At the one-mile mark on their first venture, the man asked his wife, "Do you think you can make it back all right, or are you too tired?" "Oh, no," she said. "I'm not tired. I can make it fine." "Good," he replied. "I'll wait here. You go back, get the car and come get me."

I also find that with exercise you tend to eat more healthy than if you are not working out period! You're more rationally sound, more confident because your self esteem goes up, and more motivated in life in general.

Great post!

LOL...the joke was adorable. I'm back on my treadmill again. this allows me to multi-task. I read and walk at the same time.

The only dangerous thing is when I get to a good part of the novel and forget to walk....I've flown off the back of the treadmill more times than I care to remember!

I've worked so hard all my life, with 12 - 14 hours a day on my feet, that when I retired a year ago, the first thing I did was sit down. Really rest. I never realized how hard I was pushing myself keeping up with everything. Now, if I go for a walk, it is because I want to see what's there. However, I'm grateful that all my life I've weighed what I did in high school, and have always had good nutrition. It is a matter of balance and good sense....now-a-days my priority is to take it easy. And, working in the garden and yard is my exercise.

Hubby and I usually do walk for exercise several times a week. It's always been a part of our routine.

Dana, it's so funny you wrote about exercise. Last night I worked out with MY hubby for the first time and it felt GREAT! We put the kiddies to bed and I hopped on the exercise bike while he did weights, then we switched. Later I stretched and did sit-ups and today I'm feeling lean and not so mean...I have a ton of energy. It's definitely a good habit to get into!

Loved the joke about the husband and wife. That would be us. lol
