It's Not All About Me!

Sunday, June 03, 2007

It's easy to get caught up in thinking it is about us. I listen everyday to people who are telling me about themselves. Someone parked in front of MY house, someone is walking on MY property, Someone said this to ME, I want them out of MY house.

I am even guilty! I think to myself WHY is this happening to ME? Why is MY mother sick? Why is MY child straying from the truth? Why, why, why? The world does not revolve around me, I should be making an impact, but instead I let things impact me!!

Where’s the evidence that the blind receive sight, the poor hear good news, the oppressed are liberated? Where? Show me!!!! People are going to bed hungry, children are being mistreated, there are people who can’t find a decent place to live, violence continues in the Middle East, how can I believe the promise of Jesus is being fulfilled?

The promise of Jesus is fulfilled when I remember that it isn’t all about ME! --- I am not here to receive the blessings of God without responsibility. The good news will be preached to the poor when I preach it. Freedom will be proclaimed to the prisoners when I proclaim it. Recovery of sight and release of the oppressed will only come through us.

It isn’t about ME! It is about what I am called by God to do for and with others! It is about trusting Him, He is allowing things to happen in our lives to work out His purpose in our lives for our good. So Please Lord,...help me to remember it isn't all about ME...................

You are right about our responsibility for our actions and most of the times,if we are not careful what happens in our lives causes us to miss a blessing God sends our way , and then we get to thinking why has God forgot about me ? Hope you're doing better ! Blessings . Ron.

Oh thank you for writing this, Dana. I am so guilty of this and all I can do is pray that my heart is changed and then work on it.

Take care, sweet lady! You are amazing.

What a great reminder! I hate the phrase, "I don't need this right now!" I even say it sometimes. How do we know what we need and what we don't need. God works everything out for our good, so even though it may not be pleasant, maybe I do need it!

It's so easy to let everything evolve around me. I constantly try to keep in mind that one of the fruits of the Spirit is selflessness!

God's Grace.

I remember this being the first chapter of The Purpose-Driven Life (it's not about me!) and it is so important to know that it starts with taking the focus off of ourselves and focusing on serving others. That's where peaceful living begins. I am still off track with everything that's going on, but I'm making a greater effort to read my Bible. Because of times like these.

This is a struggle for all of us. We miss the beauty of what He gives us because we are so busy worrying about what we think we deserve.
Good post.

Peace
Neva
