Salt of the Earth

I was reading today and ran across this analogy, I thought I would share it.

Sodium is an extremely active element found naturally only in combined form; it always links itself to another element. Chlorine, on the other hand, is the poisonous gas that gives bleach its offensive odor. When sodium and chlorine are combined, the result is sodium chloride--common table salt--the substance we use to preserve meat and bring out its flavor.

Love and truth can be like sodium and chlorine. Love without truth is flighty, sometimes blind, willing to combine with various doctrines. On the other hand, truth by itself can be offensive, sometimes even poisonous. Spoken without love, it can turn people away from the gospel. When truth and love are combined in an individual or a church, however, then we have what Jesus called "the salt of the earth," and we're able to preserve and bring out the beauty of our faith.

It's The Little Things

Friday, October 19, 2007

Ah! If our likeness to God does not show itself in trifles, what is there left for it to show itself in? For our lives are all made up of trifles. The great things come three or four of them in the seventy years; the little ones every time the clock ticks.
Alexander Maclaren
.
It is in the day to day unimportant trivial things that shows who I really am. It's easy to step up when something big happens, but day to day, who am I? What is going on in my life and how am I handling those things on a day to day basis?
I am truly working on taking things moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day and realizing that nothing ever happens good or bad that doesn't cross God's desk first and He knows I can handle it if he lets it come my way. I am an overcomer. I do walk by faith and not by sight. I am His kid and He is taking care of things, He loves me, He created me and He didn't bring me this far to leave me. So today I am blessed, happy and looking forward to tomorrow for I know who holds the future and I know He watches over me, His banner over me is Love and I can do all things thru Him who strengthens me.

Character

A man is measured more by his character than by his creed.

I read in an article this week about a lake, it stated..."excess sewage gradually draining into the lake changed the character of the lake." I thought how true and how it related to our Christian walk. We don't even realize we are changing.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn said in his Harvard speech, "Destructive and irresponsible freedom has been granted boundless space. Society appears to have little defense against the abyss of human decadence, such as, for example, misuse of liberty for moral violence against young people, motion pictures full of pornography, crime and horror. It is considered to be part of freedom and theoretically counter-balanced by the young people's right not to look or not to accept. Life organized legalistically has thus shown its inability to defend itself against the corrosion of evil."

It amazes me how someone from another country can pinpoint and see what is going on right here in America. I may not be able to see the tree for the forest, but this guy gave an incredible speech that touches so many issues, but today Character was on my mind, so I thought I would bring these two statements up.
